Concepts of Pain

Uploaded by on Feb 9, 2008

Stanley Herring, medical director of Spine Care and professor of rehabilitation medicine, orthopaedics and sports medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine, joins two other experts in an exploration of pain. Pain is an adverse perception of physical, sensory and emotional dimensions with major impact on the general and specific well being of an affected individual. Individuals vary greatly in the level of pain intensity, duration and functional impairment experienced. The human lower back is a prime focal point of pain manifestation for a considerable majority of humankind. In this presentation, three physicians provide their observations on causation and symptomatic treatment of pain and provide insight into the differences of pain manifestations and perception between human beings as well as provide a thought-provoking outlook on alternatives in approaching pain management.

Dr. Michael Cousins discusses "Pain Management"

Pain Management - A Personal Essay

Sunday Edition Producer Peter Kavanagh has lived his whole life in varying degrees of pain. In his own words, he told us his story.
Pain Management - An Interview with Paul Cousins
Dr. Michael Cousins knows about pain. Almost single-handedly, he is considered to have invented the discipline of "Pain Management". For Forty years, he has devoted his career to the study of pain. And he has fought to have proper treatment of intractable chronic pain made available to everyone who needs it. Dr. Cousins believes that its alleviation should be considered a human right. We reached him at his hometown of Sydney, Australia.

Breakthroughs have come from studying a remarkable woman in London who has felt no pain at all in her life, a man in the US who cut off his own arm to survive, and three generations of an Italian family who don't feel extremes of temperature.

Pain. Is it all just in your mind? Professor Lorimer Moseley - University of South Australia

Uploaded by on May 9, 2011
Pain has been part of the human experience longer than magnetic bracelets, ergonomic chairs, whiplash and repetitive strain injury. Yet it is just in the last few decades that we have realised how terrifically complex pain really is and how wrong many of our assumptions about pain really are.

Pain is an important issue. Its impact on our society is staggering - more Australians suffer from chronic pain than diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer combined. Every day, chronic pain and its management costs Australia almost a million dollars. How can this be?

In this fascinating Knowledge Works lecture, Professor Lorimer Moseley will examine two important questions - "Why does it hurt?" and "Why does it still hurt?" He will share findings from his international research investigating the role of the brain and mind in chronic pain disorders.

Abraham-Hicks - How to deal with sadness of (perceived) loss

ABRAHAM HICKS Unrequited Love

Abraham Hicks - To be less affected by other's opinions?

Healing Affirmation Be Do Have Health Wealth Love..spoken with music

"I AM INFINITE LOVE...I AM INFINITE LOVE
I CAN BE ANYTHING I WANT TO BE X 2

I AM INFINITE HEALTH...I AM INFINITELY HEALTHY
I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT TO DO X 2

I AM INFINITE WEALTH...I AM INFINITELY WEALTHY
I CAN HAVE ANYTHING I WANT TO HAVE X 2

THE MORE INFINITE LOVE I AM....THE MORE I HAVE TO GIVE
THE MORE INFINITELY HEALTHY I AM...THE MORE I HAVE TO GIVE
THE MORE INFINITELY WEALTHY I AM...THE MORE I HAVE TO GIVE

THE MORE I ALLOW
INFINITE LOVE, INFINITE HEALTH AND INFINITE WEALTH
TO FLOW THROUGH ME
THE EASIER IT BECOMES FOR ALL OTHERS TO DO THE SAME!"

An affirmation treatment to repeat over and over for positive self-esteem and to create a positive vibration deep within, which then attracts the same joy from the 'outer' world. In the Infinite Great Reality we really are PERFECT, WHOLE and COMPLETE and living in BLISS. Affirmations and related techniques help us to 'wake up' and become aware of this truth.
The more awake and aware we are, the more we help raise the energy/vibration positively for all life. It is a sacred service.
MAY ALL BE BLESSED BEYOND THEIR WILDEST DREAMS!

Locomotion

Uploaded by chichin85 on Oct 18, 2007
We can stand, sit, and move because of the musculoskeletal system—206 bones, 600 muscles, and more than 1,200 joints.

Muscle movement requires the cooperation of both the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system.

Movement occurs when groups of muscle cells contract.

Electrochemical impulses from the nervous system stimulate fibers called sarcomeres, causing them to shorten. Contraction continues until the impulses cease and the muscle once again relaxes.

As muscles contract, the bones to which they are attached move.

Joints—lubricating structures between bones—make movement smoother.

Thanks to the teamwork of muscles, bones and joints, locomotion is possible.
